Are you struggling with nutrition or diet-related health concerns such as nutritional deficiencies, an eating disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, or food allergies? Are you seeking specialist advice on healthy eating strategies? Do you have concerns about your weight, cholesterol level, blood sugar or blood pressure?
Through the Virtual Health Clinic, you can speak with our healthcare provider about your nutritional goals and guidance on healthy eating strategies. We can also refer you to a Registered Dietician who can add an additional layer of support in reaching your health goals by showing you how to choose the right foods, create meal plans, and develop a positive relationship with food.
Nutrition provides nourishment and plays a key role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Consuming the right balance of nutrients (proteins, fiber, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water) helps in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, promotes healthy pregnancy outcomes, supports normal growth, and reduces the risk of developing certain chronic diseases.
Nutrition is the study of nutrients in our food, and how substances in food can either provide energy or get converted into body tissues. It is also a study of the relationship between diet, health, and disease.
At the Virtual Health Clinic you can seek help for even the most complex issues surrounding food and nutrition. We can refer you to a Dietician, a trained food and nutrition expert, who will assess your nutrition needs and develop and implement a personalized nutrition plan where there will be ongoing evaluations on your results.
A Registered Dietician will counsel you on how to make dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of certain diseases like cancer, heart problems, diabetes, and high blood pressure, and support you throughout your health journey.
To get a referral for a registered Dietician near you, you can book a consultation with one of our doctors at the Virtual Health Clinic. After your consultation with our virtual doctor, a referral to a dietician will be emailed to you or sent to your nearest specialist’s clinic. If you have a valid Ontario health card, the consultation fee with our Healthcare Provider is covered by OHIP. For uninsured patients, the consultation fee is $50 CDN (including all applicable taxes), per visit. Virtual Health Clinic also accepts all major insurance plans where you may be fully covered or have reduced pricing. Please check your coverage with your insurance provider to see if this applies to you.
Dietitians have a strong background in clinical nutrition and are trained to provide medical nutrition therapy for various health conditions. They work in healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and private practices, collaborating with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
Nutritionists on the other hand, focus on promoting healthy eating habits and general nutrition education. Nutritionists may provide general advice on healthy eating, weight management, sports nutrition, and wellness, but they typically cannot provide specialized medical nutrition therapy for complex health conditions.
